Djembés
Origin & Culture
The djembe is undoubtedly one of the most powerful percussion instruments in existence. He was called "the healing drum".
For its origins we must go back to the 12th century, at the time of the great empire of Mali in West Africa, where the djembe was used in ceremonies for healing rituals, communication, storytelling, funerals, social dance parties, ... also played a very prominent role in the sacred celebrations and feasts among the Malinké and Sou-Sou peoples of Guinea.
The djembe has an incredible sound range: from a body-penetrating bass to a thunderous slap tone and an enormous dynamic range, from whispering soft to lion roaring loud. The latter distinguishes him from other drums.
